Aerators
What is an Aerator?
Your faucets have an aerator on the spout (excluding tub spouts). This device softens the stream of water and keeps it straight and symmetrical. If the stream of water from your faucet becomes abnormal, the aerator can be removed and cleaned.
How to Clean Your Aerators
1. Turn the aerator counter clockwise. You may need a small pair of pliers to loosen the aerator. If you use pliers, cover the aerator with a cloth to prevent the finish from being scratched. Use minimal pressure to prevent damage to the aerator.
2. Take care to observe the way the pieces fit together inside the aerator. They must go back the same way.
3. Once you have the aerator removed, wash the screens thoroughly with a brush (an old tooth brush works well).
4. Replace the pieces of the aerator and screw the aerator clockwise back into place. The threads of the aerator are very fine so be careful not to cross thread it. It should screw in completely by hand and hand tightening should be sufficient.
