My Sink Drains Don't Hold Water
You may have noticed that your sink drains do not hold water for an extended period of time, which is important to you if you have clothing items that need to soak. Drains are installed to give you the best seal possible; however, the standard developed by the ASME, which governs the manufacturing of the product, allows that "leakage by the stopper when closed shall not be more than 1 Gallon Per Hour". Based on this guideline, there may be some lavatory drains in your home that do not hold water as well as others.
My Drains Won't Drain!
Another problem that develops over time with a sink drain is slow or sluggish draining. This is nearly always caused by hair or body oils building up inside the drain assembly. The problem can almost always be fixed by disassembling the drain assembly and cleaning the drain.
- 1. Disassembly the drain assembly under the sink
- 2. After removing the pivot rod that operates the drain plug, the drain plug can be lifted out of the drain.
- 3. It will then be easy to clean the hair and other build-up from the drain.
- 4. REMEMBER! Do not run water in the sink as the drain is open and will fill you cabinet with water.
- 5. When clean, reassemble the drain and check for leaks.
